Branding and collateral for OLAM

OLAM is a Jewish organization that brings together other groups to promote advocacy in other countries. The graphic system is made to represent the many groups that are part of OLAM coming together as pieces of this organization.

Branding and event collateral with a tiny turnaround time.

The challenge

The scary part of this project is that I was tasked with creating the logo and identity system in a very short period of time to meet the deadline of their launch conference. At SPARK we prided ourselves on conducting thorough research/testing before making a brand and this entire process had to be truncated to meet the deadlines.

“All in the logo” solution

Since we did not want to sacrifice thoughtful design, the next solution was to build everything with dual purposes in mind. Our original idea was to focus on photography, letting one or two photos be the face of the event and then having the logo in the corner. Unfortunately at the time OLAM’s library was small, so while they had taken part in some great humanitarian work they didn’t have any photography to show it off. The pattern in the logo has meaning, but it was also created to provide the framework for a design system that would let us create dozens of print pieces that felt like part of a whole.

Patterns everywhere

The collateral for this event may have been created in a hurry, but it was a very fun project. We were forced into coming up with rapid-fire innovations like using the pattern behind text or quotes, breaking a piece of the pattern out for emphasis, and using a multiplied gradient on top of the pattern to give the vector shapes some depth.
